Purpose. Designers and patternmakers use this template to build the product specification for every garment, textile product or footwear style before it is entered in the Tech Pack Register.

1.How to use this template

Complete every section for a new style. Where a section does not apply, write not applicable rather than leaving it blank. The tech pack is the single source of truth for Production, so every measurement, material and instruction must be specific enough that a machinist or shoemaker who has never seen the sample can make the product.

2.Style identification

Record the style number, style name, client, season or program, product category and the block or last from which the pattern was developed. Record the base size and the size range to be graded.

3.Technical drawing and construction

Attach front and back technical flats drawn to proportion with stitch lines, topstitching, closures and trims shown. List the construction sequence operation by operation with the machine type, needle size, thread and stitches per centimetre for each operation.

4.Measurement specification

List every point of measure with the method of measuring, the base size value and the tolerance. Grade increments are shown per size. Measurements must be taken flat unless stated otherwise.

  • Point of measure
  • How measured
  • Base size value
  • Tolerance plus and minus
  • Grade increment

5.Bill of materials

List every fabric, leather, lining, interlining, thread, trim, label and packaging item with the supplier article number, colour, quantity per unit and placement. Restricted substances excluded by the client must be noted here with the supplier declaration reference.

6.Labelling and packing

Specify the care label wording, fibre content, size label, brand label and country of origin claim, with the position and attachment method. Specify the fold, bag, hanger, carton quantity and any pack-by-wearer requirement.

7.Approval

Record the fit round history, the sealed sample tag number, the client approval date and the names of the people who approved the tech pack. Set the status in the register only after all approvals are recorded.

8.Complete the template
