The situation

What has happened

Harbourline Hospitality Group is opening three new venues in December and has briefed a six-piece front of house capsule: two shirts, a vest, a bib apron, a trouser and a skirt in navy, plus a printed neckerchief. The brief sets a budget per wearer, asks for fabrics that survive commercial laundering, and requires that every fabric supplier holds a current ethical sourcing declaration. The Design Studio Manager wants three concept boards, a fabric and trim shortlist with landed costs, a print proposal for the neckerchief with a dye or print method the Preston studio can run, and a draft tech pack for the first shirt, all by the end of September so sampling can start in October.

What to look for

Evidence guide

Look for concepts that respond to every constraint in the brief, not just the aesthetic, and for costs built from consumption, trims and labour rather than guessed. Supplier declaration status must be checked and recorded. The print proposal must be producible in the studio described in the site documents. The draft tech pack must be complete enough for the Pattern Room to start a first pattern.
