Purpose. This policy states the quality commitments of CAQA Loom and Last and the system through which products are specified, made, inspected and released.

1.Commitment

CAQA Loom and Last will supply garments, textiles and footwear that conform to the approved tech pack, the approved sample and the customer's order. Quality is built in at each stage rather than inspected in at the end. Every worker is responsible for the quality of the operation they perform and must stop and raise a concern when a specification cannot be met.

2.The specification chain

No style will be bulk cut until its tech pack is released at status Approved and the sealed sample has been signed by the client and the Pattern Room Supervisor. The tech pack must hold the technical drawing, measurement specification with tolerances, bill of materials, construction notes, labelling and packing instructions. Any change after release must be recorded as a new tech pack version and communicated to Production before the change is applied.

3.Inspection stages

Inspection will take place at receiving (fabric, leather and trims), at cut (ply count, notches, shade and pattern conformance), in-line (first-off and hourly checks of critical operations) and at final (measurement, appearance, labelling and packing). Results must be recorded in the Quality Inspection Log. Products that fail inspection must be quarantined and tagged until a disposition of rework, accept with concession or reject is recorded.

  • Receiving: shade banding, roll length, faults per 100 metres
  • Cut: ply count against marker, notch and drill placement, shade continuity within a bundle
  • In-line: seam allowance, stitch density, thread tension, operation sequence
  • Final: measurement to tolerance, labelling, care instructions, pack list

4.Nonconformance and corrective action

Nonconforming product, customer complaints and audit findings must be recorded and assigned an owner and a due date. The owner will identify the root cause, implement a corrective action and verify that it has worked. Repeat nonconformances will be escalated to the monthly quality and safety meeting.

5.Labelling and consumer law

Every garment must carry a care label that follows the Australian care labelling requirements, a fibre content label and, where the customer requires it, a country of origin claim that the business can substantiate. Footwear must carry the material composition information required by the customer. Labelling will be checked at final inspection and any error corrected before dispatch.

6.Review

This policy will be reviewed annually by the General Manager with the Quality and WHS Coordinator. Quality objectives and measures will be set each financial year and reported monthly.
